Virat’s been playing non-stop, he’s drained: Prasad

The senior national scripted workload management for the 2019 world cup with Indian captain Virat Kohli rests for the Asia Cup. Had the Asia cup been a low-key tournament like Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka, towards the end of the 2017-18 season, the choice wouldn’t have evoked discussion. The Sept 15-28 Asia Cup, however, features Pakistan and, whether or not one likes it, India vs Pakistan games still mean almost about everything on each side of border. Being so, unless Virat encompasses a major drawback, he ought to be heading to UAE post England. No one disagrees with principle of managing work-load, however to begin with the Asia Cup is very hard to digest.

Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav is not within the Sri Lanka tour team. A detailed look can indicate that selectors maintained consistency by choosing all those players, who were a part of the home team in T20s against Sri Lanka in December. In June, Kohli skipped Afghanistan’s inaugural test game to get used to English conditions ahead of the test tour. However all those plans came to halt after his neck got injured during an IPL match, Kohli further cancelled his contract with Surrey and went for rehabilitation.

Kohli was forced off the ground on throughout the second test against England. He was forced to miss some on-field action during day three and was seen spending time off the field, excercising.

Key players have, in the past not been rested in the series that is a major area of consequence. “Virat had been playing continuously except for the second half of May. He’s completely drained and it’s not fair to expect him to stay consistent”, said MSK Prasad, in an interview. Bhuvneshwar was adjudged man of the series in T20Is for taking seven wickets in 3 matches at an average of 9.57 with five for twenty-four being his best performance. He picked up ten wickets in two Tests, two wickets in five ODIs and ended with seven in the T20I series. Bumrah made his test debut in the first match against South Africa, got 14, 8 and 1 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively on the tour. Pandya too was a part of the squad in all the twelve matches against South Africa and as a result was given a much-needed break before the Indian Premier League.

Ishant Sharma: An unsung hero of Indian fast bowling

Image 1

At the age of 18, Sharma was called to join the Indian squad for the tour of South Africa in 2006—07. However, after receiving the call and organising travel arrangements, it was decided not to send him on the tour. In reference to his height and lean physique in his Under-19 days, the bowler was nicknamed Lambu.

Image 2

In 2011, he became the fifth youngest player to take 100 Test wickets. Against South Africa in 2013, Ishant Sharma became the fifth quickest Indian to grab 100 ODI wickets. While being a “rhythm” bowler, he still is considered one of the fastest Indian bowlers having bowled in excess of 150 km/h on several occasions in international cricket as well as the IPL, his fastest being 152.2 km/h bowled to Ricky Ponting on Boxing Day Test in 2011.

Image 3

Ishant Sharma knows that his career would have been easier if he was English. For in India, bowling fast can seem as futile as playing chess against Garry Kasparov. You got the slow wickets — doesnt bounce, spinners are into the game most of the time, says Sharma, with a slightly long-suffering air. He has been trying to overcome these limitations for 11 years in Test cricket, one of the longest careers of any Indian fast bowler.

Image 4

On Indias last Test tour of England in 2014, Sharma took seven for 74 to seal a famous Indian victory at Lords. He embraces bowling in England like a farmer greets rain after months of drought.

Image 5

The weather is so nice, you can bowl long spells, the conditions are helpful. The ball is nice, the wicket is favourable. Theres a lot of difference between bowling in England and India. In England, where Sharma has been preparing with a stint at Sussex, the order he knows in India is reversed. Spinners need to contain the runs, and fast bowlers are the ones who are going to take the wickets.

Image 6

And yet Sharma has built a career upon his durability in Indian conditions. For all his qualities — consistency, variety, bounce from his 6ft 4in frame — perhaps most important is the sheer bloody-mindedness that has sustained Sharma during 11 years in Test cricket. He is celebrating for bowling the dirty overs: those times when the ball has gone soft, the batsmen are set and the heat is unforgiving.

Image 7

Indian pacer Ishant Sharma wreaked havoc on the Bangladesh team as he picked up five wickets in the first innings and four in the second. Some of the greatest fast bowler shared their opinions on Ishant sharma. Former Australian great, Glenn McGrath, feels Ishant is more of a workhorse than a strike bowler and needs to figure out his role in the Indian team, but he is happy that Ishant is slowly adapting to conditions, commenting When Ishant started off, he took the world by storm bowling good pace. He is probably not bowling at the same pace. But he is much more experienced now with good control. The Edgbaston Test showed that Ishant has started adopting a bit more.

TOP 5 FIELDING EFFORTS IN CRICKET

Fielding in the sport of cricket is the action of fielders in collecting the ball after it is struck by the striking batter, to limit the number of runs that the striker scores and/or to get a batter out by either catching a hit ball before it bounces, or by running either batter out before they can complete the run they are currently attempting. There are a number of recognised fielding positions, and they can be categorised into the offside and leg side of the field. Fielding also involves preventing the ball from going to or over the edge of the field.

A fielder or fieldsman may field the ball with any part of his body. However, if while the ball is in play he wilfully fields it otherwise (e.g. by using his hat), the ball becomes dead and five penalty runs are awarded to the batting side, unless the ball previously struck a batter not attempting to hit or avoid the ball. Today we will look into top 5 fielding efforts by the fielders in world cricket.

  1. Darcy Short

“Short take a bow the collection the underarm back flip and the wicket has come from nowhere from something very very special that’s the rest well i needed this the hurricanes here we go Henriques didn’t know where the ball had gone i don’t think”. These were the wordings of commentators while short nailed a screamer run-out against Sidney Sixers in Big Bash League 2018-19.

  1. Cameron Bancroft

“can get back a little fumble will go upstairs yeah i think he’s done enough there Bancroft and he had to sprint up take the deliver the throw the return and then work out where he was in comparison to the stumps he had to totally turn his body away transfer everything back towards the stump slide i think he’s done enough here.” Bancroft got the batsmen run-out while he was running 100 metre from the point where he was standing against Brisbane Heats in 2018-19 edition of Big Bash League.

  1. Corey Anderson

“he has two started well with a four or has he said Jesse Ryder but Corey Anderson is left-handed five the ball’s over it’s over the boundary but he’s dived he’s in here that’s brilliant absolutely brilliant with the right hand”. Anderson was at third man when he sprinted towards deep point to stop a boundary for his team against the Windies.

  1. Jofra Archer

“okay bonnie was calling for him to come on and make the breakthrough he didn’t need to beat the ball increase brilliance from archer”. Archer’s bullet throw which led to Bonnie’s wicket which was looking dangerous during 2018-19 Big Bash League.

  1. David Miller

“well he made great yeah oh it’s tight miller picks up big trouble he’s gone slow off the mark wasn’t he you could see it it’s great feeling now you’re right gilly this is the way this fight back and look at that little pick up and flick and world short scary just defended to the offside but dave miller was in tight at short cover anyway wasn’t he going on it earlier about how fast he is around the boundary ropes”. David Miller nailed a fantastic runout while fielding in the short cover.

 ALL-TIME INDIA T20 XI (TILL 2020)

Right from the start of the inaugural T20 world cup, we have seen some players who have performed exceptionally well and have cemented their place in the all time playing 11. So, this is my all time playing 11 till now.

  1. ROHIT SHARMA

For the openers we have Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. There is absolutely no doubt in having Rohit Sharma in the side. HITMAN has been quite impressive in the shorter formats of the game. His six-hitting ability and explosive batting style completely justify his name ‘Ro-Superhit Sharma’.

  1. KL RAHUL

Alongside Rohit, KL Rahul comes in to open the innings. We had other options like Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan but when you have Kamaal Lajawab Rahul, then you don’t have to look for others. Raul has proved to be an absolute match-winner for the Indian team in the 20-over cricket format.

  1. VIRAT KOHLI

THE CHASE MASTER, VIRAT KOHLI IS OUR FIRST CHOICE FOR NUMBER 3 and We are sure there would be no debate on this. WHETHER IT IS BUILDING A TOUGH knock OR CHASING AN IMPOSSIBLE LOOKING SCORE, HE MADE ALL OF IT. VIRAT KOHLI IS THE ONLY CURRENT INDIAN  BATSMAN to have an AVERAGE over 50 IN T20I CRICKET. Kohli WILL ALSO BE the VICE CAPTAIN for this side.

  1. YUVRAJ SINGH

OUR SIX MACHINE AND A FIGHTER YUVRAJ SINGH WILL COME AT NUMBER 4. The man who hit six 6s in an over off Stuart Broad is a must to have in India’s all-time t20I xi. HE ALSO won THE MAN OF THE tournament award IN THE INAUGURAL edition ICC WORLD T20. Yuvi can also bowl some left-arm orthodox in the middle of the innings that provides a great balance to the team.

  1. SURESH RAINA

Another left left-hander in the form of Suresh Raina will complete our middle order. GREAT FIELDER, GREAT FOOTWORK AGAINST SPINNERS AND AN EFFECTIVE PART-TIME BOWLER. He has got everything to find a spot in this playing xi. Raina is a proven match-winner as he has PLAYED SOME GREAT KNOCKS FOR THE TEAM IN DIFFICULT SITUATIONS.  HE HAS ALSO THE FIRST Indian  BATSMAN WHO SCORED CENTURY IN T20is.

  1. MS DHONI

One of the greatest finishers of all-time, MS dhoni is there at number 6. Not just a great finisher, but also a magnificent wicket keeper and captain, Dhoni is an absolute legend of the game. Dinesh Karthik also has a decent record in this format but ab jab baat Dhoni pe aa Jaye toh kahi aur Jaane ki zarurat nahi. You can’t imagine an Indian without the man who won all the three ICC trophies for the nation.

  1. HARDIK PANDYA

After A LOT OF CONFUSION between JADEJA OR HARDIK, we decided to go for Pandya, owing to his better batting records. Hardik has a natural ability to absolutely tonk the bowlers out of the park and at number 7, you need a similar kind of player. India has not had many great fast bowling all-rounders after Kapil Dev and Irfan Pathan but Pandya has got all the right ingredients to walk on that path.

  1. R ASHWIN

After pipping bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav and Harbhajan Singh, Ashwin would be our first spinner for this Indian all-time t20i xi. The off-spinner TOOK T20I 52 WICKETS WITH AN AVERAGE OF 22. He is one of those rare spinners who can bowl in the powerplay as well and claim some early wickets for the team.

  1. BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR

Bhuvneshwar Kumar joins the side to lead the pace attack in terms of experience. With really tough competition between Bhuvi and Nehra Ji, we went for Bhuvi. He has a much better economy rate and no matter whom we pick, our SRH fans will get a treat seeing any one of them bowl.

  1. YUZI CHAHAL

Wrist spinners are always effective in the shorter formats aur ab baat jab wrist spinners ki ho rhi h toh yes, you guessed it right, we are talking about Yuzi Chahal. CHAHAL’S RECORD IN T20 CRICKET FROM PAST 4 YEARS HAVE BEEN VERY IMPRESSIVE AND HE HAS ALSO DELIVERED SOME BEST PERFORMANCES FOR THE TEAM. He is also the second spinner to take six wickets in T20I innings.

  1. JASPRIT BUMRAH

Boom boom Bumrah completes our greatest Indian XI for the t20is. POPULARLY KNOWN AS TOE CRUSHER, Burmah is the current BEST BOWLER FOR INDIA IN T20 CRICKET. He has more t20I wickets than any other Indian bowler right now. With death specialists like Bhuvi and Bumrah, the opposition is going to face a lot of problems to score runs at the end.

BROTHERS IN IPL

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a tournament where different teams compete against each other. IPL has given a lot of players to world cricket like Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, Shaun Marsh, Hardik Pandya and many more. IPL also gave world cricket some brothers who either played against or with each other. Here are some brothers who featured in the IPL in recent times.

Mike Hussey played for Chennai Super Kings for six seasons of the Indian Premier League. His brother David Hussey was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders and played there for three seasons. Mitchell Marsh made his IPL debut for Deccan Chargers in 2010. In 2011, Mitchell Marsh was picked by Pune Warriors where he played for the next three seasons before moving to the Rising Pune Supergiants. Shaun Marsh had a fantastic season in 2008 where he scored a century for his team and also won the Orange Cap award. Mitchell Marsh has not been too impressive in the IPL till now.

Shaun Marsh is currently playing for Australia in test and one-day matches. He is an explosive opening batsman and can adapt himself for the middle order as well. Mitchell Marsh, being an all-rounder also showed some character while playing for Australia in all formats of the game.

  1. Dwayne and Darren Bravo

Dwayne Bravo made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians, playing there for the first two seasons before moving to Chennai Super Kings. Since then, Bravo has been performing well for the team. In 2012, he scored 461 runs at an average of 57 with a strike rate of 178. In 2013, he also won the Purple Cap. He took 32 wickets with an average of 9.15 surpassing his teammate Albie Morkel. In 2012, Darren Bravo was picked up by Deccan Chargers but could not play a game there because of the Australia-West Indies series. Darren finally made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 where he featured in just a single game.

Dwayne Bravo is currently playing international cricket for the West Indies. In 2018, he retired from all formats of the game but later made a comeback to play T20Is. Darren Bravo, on the other hand, plays all three formats of the game.

His breakthrough moment came against Delhi Capitals where he took a hat-trick and made 20 runs in the same match. He also scored a fifty for his team off just 23 balls in the same season.

Tom Curran debuted in IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He could play only five matches as the franchise was not much impressed with his performances. Rajasthan Royals picked Tom for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Sam Curran is currently playing all formats of the game for England. He made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2018 followed by the limited-over formats. Sam impressed the team management with his batting and bowling skills to become a regular member of the side. Just like Sam, Tom also plays all three formats for the national side. He made his international debut in 2017 and gave some decent performances since then.

CRICKET IS ALL SET TO RESUME IN ENGLAND

After almost 3 months, Cricket is all set to resume with a test series between England and West Indies tomorrow. Last time, a cricket match was played between Australia and New Zealand on 13th March 2020 at SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground). The match was played behind the closed doors i.e. without spectators. It was the first time a cricket match was played without spectators due to Coronavirus. Many leagues, tournaments and series were postponed due to this pandemic.

This year, T20 Cricket World Cup was also scheduled in Australia, but due to the pandemic authorities are willing to postpone it till 2021 as public safety comes first. BCCI is trying to organize IPL (Indian Premier League) this year as according to them if IPL doesn’t happen, then it may cost them a huge loss. Many cricket board are suffering from financial problem during this pandemic because of postponement of tournaments and series.

The West Indies Cricket Team are currently touring England to play three matches. The team were originally scheduled to tour the country in May and June 2020. However, the series was initially postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Earlier, The  England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced that no professional matches would take place before 28 May 2020 due to the pandemic. On 24 April 2020, the ECB confirmed that no professional cricket would be played in England before 1 July 2020, with the tour being postponed. After the tour was postponed, both cricket boards had been involved in “positive” talks about rescheduling the series. After discussions and meetings, both the cricket boards got agreed upon having three test match series on 8th July 2020.

The first match will be played at Rose Bowl, Southampton. Both the teams will play the match without spectators and all the players are in isolated hotels. Then, both the teams will head towards Manchester to play last two test matches. The West Indies team arrived in England on 9th June and they were kept in isolation for few days also ensuring proper safety measures are being taken care off.

It is also being said that “this is the new birth of cricket in the world”. The whole world is now excited to watch the new birth of cricket. But, cricket won’t be the same as earlier. Use of saliva in cricket is banned and due to this, many experts think that this is not good for cricket. We hope that tomorrow we will see a new journey of cricket and we also hope it will give us some memories to remember in future also.

T20I series review of India vs New Zealand, 2020

The first match of the series was played in Auckland, New Zealand. Virat Kohli lost the toss from the Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson. New Zealand opted to bat first in the First T20I and they got a nice start from their openers. After the first innings, Blackcaps ended up scoring 203 runs with a loss of 5 wickets of Martin Guptill (30 of 19), Colin Munro (59 of 42), Kane Williamson (51 of 26), Colin de Grandhomme (0 of 2) and Tim Seifert (1 of 2).

With the half centuries of Colin Munro, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, Blackcaps were pretty confident of winning this game. India didn’t get a great start as the hitman Rohit Sharma departs after making 7 runs off 6 balls. But KL Rahul was in a different form of his career. With the skipper Virat Kohli, Rahul tried to put pressure on the Blackcaps by hitting consecutive boundaries. As the innings started building up, India lost a crucial wicket of KL Rahul who played a cracking knock of 56 runs off 27 balls smashing 4 fours and 3 gigantic sixes. After that India again lost a very important wicket of Virat Kohli as the skipper departs making 45 off 32 balls.

With losing two consecutive wickets, team was under-pressure but the young and talented Middle order explosive batsman Shreyas Iyer played a supersonic knock of 58 runs off 29 balls, supported by the two batsman Shivam Dube and Manish Pandey as India chased the target with 1 over left. Shreyas Iyer was selected Man of the Match as he helped his team to get over the victory line.

By taking 1-0 lead in the series of 5 matches, India again lost the toss and again Blackcaps decided to Bat first. This time, the Indian bowlers showed their skills as India restricted Blackcaps till 132 with losing 5 wickets of Martin Guptill (33 of 20), Colin Munro (26 of 25), Colin de Grandhomme (3 of 5), Kane Williamson (14 of 30), Ross Taylor (18 of 24) and Tim Seifert* (33 of 26).

With the great bowling effort from the Indian side, now it was time for the batsmen to show their skills on the pitch. Rohit Sharma similar to the innings he played in the first match, was repeating it in the second match too. Southee departed Rohit with an easy catch from Ross Taylor on 8 runs. Indian fans again expecting something from the skipper Virat Kohli were left disappointed as Southee took another wicket.

But the heroes of the last match KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer again showed their class and helped the team in difficult situation. Rahul and Iyer both are striking to get over the victory line. But in between, both of the batsman were struggling between the wickets as both the batsman were taking wrong calls to take runs in between. Shreyas Iyer departed by playing a silly short against Ish Sodhi. He departed by making 44 runs from 33 balls. KL Rahul ended up his innings with 57 runs off 50 balls. KL Rahul was selected Man of the Match.

India headed towards Hamilton with lead of 2-0. Again India lost the toss but this time Blackcaps invited the Indian team to bat first. The opening pair Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul walk in and this time both the openers got a good start. From the start, Rohit Sharma started playing some aggressive shots and accompanying him KL Rahul started his innings with the same. Both the batsmen were playing good cricket but KL Rahul departs off with a simple catch by Colin Munro. After few balls, Rohit Sharma also departed and following him, Shivam Dube also departed nextforth.

With the consecutive falling of wickets, skipper Kohli and Iyer decided to make a statement and started playing some defensive shots. In between of that, both the batsmen were trying to play some aggressive shots also. But before they could make a huge partnership, Iyers departed by Santner with a simple stumping by Seifert. Kohli and Manish Pandey tried to take the innings to a good end but before he could do that, he departed on 38 off 27 balls by Hamish Bennett. But Manish Pandey and Jadeja took the scoreboard towards a good and a fighting score of 179 in 20 overs.

Its time for the bowlers to take the driving seat from the side. Both the openers from the Blackcaps walk into the middle to give a good start for their respective team. Martin Guptill got a good start against the fast bowlers. Munro also supported him well and they helped their team to head upto a good start. Guptill was looking in a good form but departs with a spectacular catch by Sanju Samson in Deep Point. Next over Munro also departed by Jadeja on 14 off 16 balls. Kane Williamson and Mitchell Santner both tried to take their team ahead but Chahal departed Santner on 9 off 10 balls.

Kane Williamson alone like a warrior, tried to take his team ahead and he was well supported by his partner Colin de Grandhomme who was at non-strikers end. Williamson made the world’s best bowler Bumrah in trouble as he was struggling in his line and length against the Blackcaps. In between, players also dropped some easy catches and misfielded during the innings which helped the Blackcaps to make comeback again in the match.

The match was became exciting when it came to the last over. Mohammad Shami has got ball in his hand as he was approaching towards Ross Taylor. Taylor hits the first ball in the stands as the Blackcaps now needed 3 off 5 balls. Taylor took a single and gave strike to Williamson. Shami was looking in pressure and he departed Williamson and made a hope for comeback for the team in the match. Williamson departs making 95 runs in 48 balls. Shami approaches towards the new batsman on the crease Tim Seifert and balls a dot ball by pulling his length to good off short length. Now, they needed 2 off 2 balls and from here, match may go towards any of the team. Next ball and again Seifert misses the ball but they became successful to rotate the strike and made Taylor on the strike. Now Blackcaps needed 1 off 1 ball. This time, Taylor is on strike but he caught by Shami’s leading edge which helved him to get bowled and here is where the match got tied between the two teams. Taylor departs from 17 off 10 balls.

Both the teams now play a super over which decides the results of the match. Indian team bowl first in the super over and Blackcaps bat. Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson opened the batting for Blackcaps. Jasprit Bumrah bowled the super over for the team. Bumrah conceded 14 runs in the super over.

To chase the target of 15 runs, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul walked into the middle. Start was not well as Rohit Sharma survived from a bizarre run-out from the fielders. KL Rahul gave a good start and helped the team to be in a good position. Rohit Sharma hit 2 huge sixes in the last 2 balls of Tim Southee and made the team win the thriller. He was also selected Man of the Match.

The process would result in the establishment of the Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss. After winning the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner opted to bat first and were given a good start by skipper David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan by showing their intent early on scoring very big on a ground where tall scores have been chased down nonchalantly. The Australian opener was on fire and smashed 69 off 38 balls and set the platform for Hyderabad’s win. Yuvraj Singh, who came in at 97/2 in 10th over, sustained Hyderabad’s momentum with his free flowing bat-swing. He raced to 38 with four fours and two sixes before falling to Jordan’s slower ball. Ben Cutting provided final push in Hyderabad’s score clobbering low full-tosses and attempted yorkers of Shane Watson scoring 24 runs in final over which proved at the end to be a valuable match-turning point.

RCB skipper Virat Kohli and West Indian Chris Gayle gave their team the perfect start and in no time reached the 100-run mark without any loss scoring 114 in 10.3 overs with Gayle alone contributing 76. But Hyderabad were able to apply brakes with Gayle’s wicket. Hyderabad were able to continue to put pressure on Bangalore taking Gayle, Kohli and de Villiers in the space of 20 balls. Still needing 61 off 37 balls, Watson tried to make up for his lapses with the ball swatting Henriques for a six over long-on but was immediately dismissed along with KL Rahul leaving rest of the team with too much to do in too little time. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Purple Cap holder in this season, held composure in last overs delivering successive yorkers and giving just 14 runs in 18th and 20th over combined and helped Hyderabad lift their maiden Indian Premier League trophy.
Sunrisers Hyderabad set up a big total of 208/7 off 20 overs for their opposition. While chasing 209 to win, Royal Challengers Bangalore could only manage 200/7 off their 20 overs, thus falling short of their target. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 8 runs and secured the 2016 Indian Premier League trophy, which happens to be their maiden title in the history of the tournament.

Ben Cutting of Sunrisers Hyderabad was declared the man of the match in the Final, Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore was declared the most valuable player of the tournament and Mustafizur Rahman of Sunrisers Hyderabad was declared as the emerging player of the season for the 2016 Indian Premier League.

Match Review on Manchester Derby (2019-20 English Premier League)8th March,2020 at Old Trafford

One of the most thrilling and fascinating fixture in the premier league is the Manchester derby. United and City playing against each other. On 8th March, at Old Trafford stadium, home ground of Manchester United F.C., hosted this much awaited fixture. Manchester United emerged victorious with a final score of 2-0, courtesy of two errors from city keeper Ederson. Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay netted but Ederson was at fault for both goals. The result also means Liverpool are now only two wins away from winning their first title in thirty years.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added:
“Anthony and Bruno have hit it off. It is a privilege to be a manager of a squad with this attitude. You can’t ask for more. They are going to improve as players as well.”

The home side maintained the upper hand and frustrated the visitors to break the deadlock, which came from a challenge from Ilkay Gundogan on Bruno Fernandes which resulted in a united free kick. Fernandes took the resulting free kick and chipped the ball over the city defence to a waiting Martial who volleyed it goalwards, past Ederson who got a touch on the ball but it slid underneath him into the net on the half hour mark.

In the second half, city had a fairytale start after Raheem Sterling played Sergio Aguero in, and he fired the ball into the net. However, the assistant referee flagged Aguero offside, which was later confirmed by VAR (Video Assistant Refree). Ederson granted United their second goal on 49th minute, a terribly controlled backpass saw the goalkeeper and Martial diving for the ball inches away from the line which Ederson managed to clear ahead of the French International. Ederson’s nightmare afternoon was complete when a dredful clearance found McTominay, who made no mistake in injury time as Solskjaer was left to savour a league double over Guardiola, and a third win over city this season.
